Overview
Cloud migrations fail on scope creep and untested cutovers, not on the cloud itself. This sprint moves one defined application or workload into its target cloud and cuts it over. The finish state is unambiguous: the workload serving production traffic in the new environment, the old environment decommissioned or on standby, and a rollback path that was tested before it was needed.
The sprint picks the right migration strategy for the workload, rehost, replatform, or partial refactor, plans data migration with integrity checks, and executes a staged cutover with rollback rehearsed in advance. How much downtime should we expect?
The cutover plan targets the smallest window the workload's architecture allows, and states it explicitly in scoping. Zero-downtime patterns are used where the application supports them.
What do we need to have ready?
A target cloud environment, ideally a proper landing zone, and access to the current system. If you are unsure the workload is cloud-ready, the Cloud Readiness Assessment is the right precursor.
What happens after the cutover?
A stabilization window with monitoring and fixes is part of the sprint. After that, a Cloud Cost Optimization Sprint is the common follow-on once real usage data exists.
