How this operator works

every way of working, already decided
A · capability focus

Owns the system, not the ticket

Takes end-to-end ownership of a service or surface. Design, delivery, on-call. And is measured on outcomes, not hours.

B · ways of working

Embedded, async-first, instrumented

Works inside your repos, your CI and your rituals. Daily written standups, decisions logged. No status-meeting tax.

C · reliability posture

Runbooks, canaries, reversible deploys

Every change gated and reversible. Incidents get a timeline and a postmortem; nothing ships without a rollback.

D · comms & cadence

Plugged into your Slack & rituals

Joins standups and retros, reports weekly against the goal. You get an operator, not a queue.

E · tooling

Brings a pre-wired stack or adopts yours

Infrastructure and observability as code by default. No bespoke setup tax to absorb.

F · onboarding

Scoped, gated, reversible

Week-1 shadow, week-2 ownership, swap on request inside the trial window. No long-tail handover risk.

Overview

Billing migrations fail loudly: a mischarged cohort, a lapsed payment method, a proration nobody modeled. This sprint moves recurring billing from your current provider or homegrown system to a new platform — mapping plans, prices, coupons, tax handling, and every in-flight subscription state.

Payment methods migrate by the compliant path, subscriptions parallel-run and reconcile before cutover, and the edge cohorts — trials, past-due, legacy plans — get explicit treatment. The finish state: billing running on the new platform, revenue reconciled against the old, and no customer-visible disruption.

·

What's included

Billing model mapping

Plans, prices, coupons, tax handling, and proration rules mapped from old to new — including the legacy cohorts nobody remembers creating.

Subscription & payment-method migration

In-flight subscriptions moved with their states intact, and payment methods transferred by the compliant path between processors.

Parallel-run & reconciliation

Old and new platforms reconciled invoice by invoice before cutover, so discrepancies surface in a report, not in a customer's inbox.

Cutover & customer continuity

A staged cutover with explicit treatment for trials, past-due, and legacy plans — and no customer-visible disruption as the bar.

·

How it works

  1. Scope. Map the billing models and cohorts; choose the payment-method migration path.
  2. Build. Migrate the subscriptions and payment methods; parallel-run and reconcile.
  3. Handover. Cutover, reconciliation report, and an old-provider wind-down plan.

Part of every Delivery Plan

The Subscription Billing Migration is a menu item on the Scrums.com delivery catalog, available at every plan tier. Add it to your plan backlog and your delivery team schedules it like any other item — scoped, tracked, and reported through the SEOP. See Delivery Plan Tiers.

FAQs

Will customers have to re-enter card details?

Almost never. Payment methods transfer between processors through compliant channels — network tokens or a secure PAN transfer arranged with both providers. Re-entry is reserved for methods that genuinely cannot transfer.

What do we need to provide?

A data export from the current provider, the payment-method transfer request initiated with both processors, and decisions on how legacy plans map into the new catalog.

What if we are implementing the new payment flows at the same time?

Build and migration pair well but stay distinct: the Stripe Payments Implementation item builds the new capability, and this sprint moves the existing book onto it with reconciliation.
