How this operator works

every way of working, already decided
A · capability focus

Owns the system, not the ticket

Takes end-to-end ownership of a service or surface. Design, delivery, on-call. And is measured on outcomes, not hours.

B · ways of working

Embedded, async-first, instrumented

Works inside your repos, your CI and your rituals. Daily written standups, decisions logged. No status-meeting tax.

C · reliability posture

Runbooks, canaries, reversible deploys

Every change gated and reversible. Incidents get a timeline and a postmortem; nothing ships without a rollback.

D · comms & cadence

Plugged into your Slack & rituals

Joins standups and retros, reports weekly against the goal. You get an operator, not a queue.

E · tooling

Brings a pre-wired stack or adopts yours

Infrastructure and observability as code by default. No bespoke setup tax to absorb.

F · onboarding

Scoped, gated, reversible

Week-1 shadow, week-2 ownership, swap on request inside the trial window. No long-tail handover risk.

Overview

The Marketplace Split Payments sprint implements the money movement a multi-seller platform needs: connected seller accounts, order splitting across sellers, platform fee capture, scheduled payouts, and refunds that unwind correctly across every party. The work builds on your payment provider's connected-account model — Stripe Connect, Adyen for Platforms, or equivalent — rather than inventing custom money movement.

The finish state is explicit: a live checkout where a single customer payment splits across sellers and platform fees, payouts run on schedule, refunds and disputes reverse the right legs, and every movement lands in records your finance team can reconcile. Compliance boundaries are respected by design — funds flow stays inside the provider's regulated rails.

·

What's included

Connected Account Onboarding

Seller onboarding flows against the provider's connected-account APIs — identity collection, capability checks, and status handling for accounts that stall in verification.

Order Splitting & Platform Fees

Order decomposition across sellers with platform fee capture, tax-aware line allocation, and support for mixed-seller carts.

Payout & Refund Flows

Scheduled and on-demand payouts, full and partial refunds that reverse the correct split legs, and dispute handling that protects the platform balance.

Reconciliation-Ready Records

Every split, fee, payout, and reversal recorded with provider references, so finance can tie platform activity to provider settlement reports.

·

How it works

  1. Scope — Map order flows, seller model, fee rules, and refund policy; fix the provider architecture and the acceptance checklist.
  2. Build — Implement onboarding, splitting, payouts, and refunds behind feature flags, tested against provider sandboxes end to end.
  3. Handover — Production cutover with monitored first payout cycles, runbooks, and documentation for the flows and failure modes.

FAQs

Which payment providers does the sprint support?

Any provider with a connected-account platform model — Stripe Connect is the most common, with Adyen for Platforms and PayPal Commerce Platform also supported. Provider selection is settled at scoping if it is not already fixed.

Does this cover marketplace features beyond payments?

No. Listings, search, and seller storefronts are out of scope — the Buyer-Seller Marketplace Build covers the full platform. This sprint is the payments layer only, on your existing marketplace.

What happens after handover?

Your team operates the flows using the runbooks. Many teams add the Payment Reconciliation Automation next, so provider settlement matching runs without spreadsheets.
