to your stack & domain
Create reusable UI foundations for a growing software product: tokens, components, and usage rules. Ends with a working system your teams actually adopt.
How this operator works
every way of working, already decidedOwns the system, not the ticket
Takes end-to-end ownership of a service or surface. Design, delivery, on-call. And is measured on outcomes, not hours.
Embedded, async-first, instrumented
Works inside your repos, your CI and your rituals. Daily written standups, decisions logged. No status-meeting tax.
Runbooks, canaries, reversible deploys
Every change gated and reversible. Incidents get a timeline and a postmortem; nothing ships without a rollback.
Plugged into your Slack & rituals
Joins standups and retros, reports weekly against the goal. You get an operator, not a queue.
Brings a pre-wired stack or adopts yours
Infrastructure and observability as code by default. No bespoke setup tax to absorb.
Scoped, gated, reversible
Week-1 shadow, week-2 ownership, swap on request inside the trial window. No long-tail handover risk.
Overview
Products without a design system pay a tax on every screen: designers redraw the same buttons, engineers rebuild the same patterns, and the interface drifts a little further apart each sprint. The Design System Starter Kit stops the drift at the foundations — tokens, core components, and usage rules extracted from your best existing screens rather than invented from scratch.
The finish state is a working starter system, not a style-guide PDF: a Figma library your designers compose from, matching coded components in your front-end stack, and rules that make the next screen cheaper than the last one.
What's included
Design Tokens
Color, type, spacing, radius, and elevation extracted into a named token set — the single source both Figma and code consume.
Component Library
The core component set — buttons, inputs, forms, tables, navigation, feedback — built in Figma with variants and states, and paired in code for your framework.
Usage Guidelines
Short, enforceable rules for when and how each component is used, including accessibility requirements, so the system survives contact with deadlines.
Adoption Handover
Working sessions with your designers and engineers, a contribution model for new components, and a migration path for existing screens.
How it works
- Scope — Inventory the current UI, pick the component set that covers most screens, and fix the stack the coded components target.
- Build — Extract tokens, build the Figma and coded libraries in parallel, and write the usage rules.
- Handover — Adoption sessions with both disciplines, plus the contribution model that keeps the system alive after the sprint.
Part of every Delivery Plan
The Design System Starter Kit is a menu item on the Scrums.com delivery catalog, available at every plan tier. Add it to your plan backlog and your delivery team schedules it like any other item — scoped, tracked, and reported through the SEOP. See Delivery Plan Tiers.
FAQs
Why a starter kit rather than a full design system?
Because full systems built up-front die unused. The starter covers the components that appear on most of your screens; the contribution model grows it from real need, which is how systems earn adoption.
Do you migrate our existing screens onto the system?
The sprint includes the migration path, not the migration. Screens move over as they are touched — or as a scheduled plan item if you want it done in one push.
What if we already have a partial system?
Common, and useful. The sprint consolidates what works, fills the gaps, and retires the duplicates — it does not restart from zero. Ongoing design capacity afterwards is what the Product Design Pod is for.
