IBM's open Granite model family targets enterprise workloads with small, efficient models under a permissive license, served via watsonx or self-hosted.
How this operator works
every way of working, already decidedOwns the system, not the ticket
Takes end-to-end ownership of a service or surface. Design, delivery, on-call. And is measured on outcomes, not hours.
Embedded, async-first, instrumented
Works inside your repos, your CI and your rituals. Daily written standups, decisions logged. No status-meeting tax.
Runbooks, canaries, reversible deploys
Every change gated and reversible. Incidents get a timeline and a postmortem; nothing ships without a rollback.
Plugged into your Slack & rituals
Joins standups and retros, reports weekly against the goal. You get an operator, not a queue.
Brings a pre-wired stack or adopts yours
Infrastructure and observability as code by default. No bespoke setup tax to absorb.
Scoped, gated, reversible
Week-1 shadow, week-2 ownership, swap on request inside the trial window. No long-tail handover risk.
Overview
Granite is IBM's family of open models built for enterprise use. The models are deliberately small and efficient, released under a permissive open-source license, and cover language, code, time-series and safety-guardrail variants. IBM serves the family through its watsonx platform, and the open weights can be self-hosted.
Through Scrums.com, delivery teams integrate Granite models into your products and agent stack. They wire the models into your pipelines with evals and guardrails, and track usage, cost and outcomes on the SEOP.
What it does
Enterprise language tasks
Granite language models handle summarization, extraction, classification and RAG over business documents at low serving cost.
Code generation and explanation
Code variants in the family generate, complete and explain code for enterprise development workflows.
Time-series and specialized models
The family includes compact time-series forecasting and embedding models for operational and analytical workloads.
Built-in guardrail models
Companion guardian models detect risks such as harmful content and prompt injection, adding a safety layer around deployments.

Commercial availability
Granite weights are published under a permissive open-source license, and IBM offers hosted, usage-based access through watsonx alongside availability on other platforms. Hosted usage is contracted with IBM or your cloud provider; self-hosting carries no model fee. Scrums.com delivers the integration.
FAQs
Are Granite models open weights or hosted API?
Both. Granite weights are openly published under a permissive license for self-hosting, and IBM hosts the family on watsonx with usage-based pricing.
What does a deployment need?
A watsonx account and API key for hosted use, or your own serving infrastructure for the open weights. Enterprise deployments often combine both.
Where does my data flow?
Self-hosted Granite keeps all data in your infrastructure. On watsonx, requests are processed under IBM's enterprise data terms. Scrums.com configures the data path with you and reports operation via the SEOP.
