Autonomous software engineer by Cognition that takes on backlog tasks, migrations, bug fixing, testing, PRs and incident work — deployed and governed in your stack by Scrums.com.
How this operator works
every way of working, already decidedOwns the system, not the ticket
Takes end-to-end ownership of a service or surface. Design, delivery, on-call. And is measured on outcomes, not hours.
Embedded, async-first, instrumented
Works inside your repos, your CI and your rituals. Daily written standups, decisions logged. No status-meeting tax.
Runbooks, canaries, reversible deploys
Every change gated and reversible. Incidents get a timeline and a postmortem; nothing ships without a rollback.
Plugged into your Slack & rituals
Joins standups and retros, reports weekly against the goal. You get an operator, not a queue.
Brings a pre-wired stack or adopts yours
Infrastructure and observability as code by default. No bespoke setup tax to absorb.
Scoped, gated, reversible
Week-1 shadow, week-2 ownership, swap on request inside the trial window. No long-tail handover risk.
Overview
Devin is Cognition's autonomous software engineer. It works inside its own development environment — with a shell, editor and browser — and takes a task from ticket to pull request: planning the change, writing and editing code, running tests, and iterating on feedback. Teams point it at backlog tasks, code migrations, bug fixes, test coverage and incident work, and can run multiple Devin sessions in parallel.
Through Scrums.com, Devin runs inside your engineering operation rather than beside it. Scrums.com delivery teams deploy it against your repositories and pipelines, integrate it with your ticketing and review workflows, and govern its output — with the work tracked on the SEOP.
What it does
Ticket-to-PR execution
Devin picks up a scoped task, plans an approach, implements the change in its own environment, and raises a pull request for human review.
Migrations and refactors
Repetitive, well-specified change work — version upgrades, framework migrations, large refactors — can be delegated to Devin and reviewed as normal PRs.
Bug fixing and testing
Devin reproduces issues, fixes them, and runs tests to verify the change before handing it back to the team.
Parallel agent sessions
Multiple Devin sessions can run at once, letting a team fan out independent backlog items across concurrent agents.
Deploying it with Scrums.com
- Scope. Scrums.com assesses where Devin fits your workflows, codebase and governance requirements, and defines which task types it takes on first.
- Integrate. Scrums.com engineers wire Devin into your repositories, pipelines and ticketing tools, with review gates and guardrails around what it may touch.
- Operate. Devin runs as a governed part of your delivery flow, with usage and outcome reporting via the SEOP.
Commercial availability
Devin is sold by Cognition as a commercial SaaS product, with enterprise plans for larger teams. Scrums.com supports procurement as part of a deployment — the software is licensed from Cognition, and Scrums.com delivers the integration and governance around it.
FAQs
How is Devin different from an in-editor coding assistant?
An in-editor assistant accelerates a developer who is doing the work. Devin is delegated the work: it operates in its own environment, completes the task end to end, and returns a pull request for review.
What access does a deployment need?
Typically repository access, CI visibility, and connections to the ticketing and chat tools it works from. Scrums.com scopes exact permissions during integration and applies least-privilege access.
How is its output governed?
Devin's changes land as pull requests subject to your normal review and CI gates. Scrums.com adds guardrails around scope and permissions and reports usage and outcomes on the SEOP.
