How this operator works

every way of working, already decided
A · capability focus

Owns the system, not the ticket

Takes end-to-end ownership of a service or surface. Design, delivery, on-call. And is measured on outcomes, not hours.

B · ways of working

Embedded, async-first, instrumented

Works inside your repos, your CI and your rituals. Daily written standups, decisions logged. No status-meeting tax.

C · reliability posture

Runbooks, canaries, reversible deploys

Every change gated and reversible. Incidents get a timeline and a postmortem; nothing ships without a rollback.

D · comms & cadence

Plugged into your Slack & rituals

Joins standups and retros, reports weekly against the goal. You get an operator, not a queue.

E · tooling

Brings a pre-wired stack or adopts yours

Infrastructure and observability as code by default. No bespoke setup tax to absorb.

F · onboarding

Scoped, gated, reversible

Week-1 shadow, week-2 ownership, swap on request inside the trial window. No long-tail handover risk.

Overview

Most products that move money start by storing balances as mutable numbers on a row — and eventually hit the wall: balances that cannot be explained, adjustments with no trail, reconciliation that depends on tribal knowledge. The Transaction Ledger Implementation sprint replaces that with a proper ledger: immutable entries, double-entry accounts where warranted, and balances that are always the sum of their movements.

The finish state is a production ledger serving your application — every credit, debit, fee, and adjustment recorded as an entry, balances derived and cached rather than overwritten, and an audit trail that answers how any account reached its current state. Existing balance data is migrated with a verified backfill, not abandoned.

·

What's included

Ledger Data Model

Account, entry, and transaction structures designed for your product — single or double entry, multi-currency where needed — with immutability enforced at the schema level.

Posting & Adjustment Rules

Idempotent posting APIs, correction-by-reversal instead of edits, and guarded adjustment flows for the operational cases that genuinely need them.

Balance & Statement Views

Real-time balance reads at production latency, plus statement and movement views for customers, support, and finance.

Migration & Backfill

Existing balances and history migrated into ledger form, with an opening-balance strategy and verification that migrated totals match the legacy system.

·

How it works

  1. Scope — Map money movements, current balance storage, and audit requirements; fix the account model and posting rules.
  2. Build — Build the ledger, posting APIs, and views; run it shadow against production traffic to verify balances match.
  3. Handover — Cut reads and writes over to the ledger, complete the backfill verification, and hand over runbooks and model documentation.

FAQs

Build or buy — does this sprint force a custom ledger?

No. Scoping evaluates ledger services and open-source engines against a custom build on your database; the sprint then implements the selected option. The deliverable is a working ledger either way.

Can we adopt a ledger without a risky cutover?

Yes — the sprint runs the ledger in shadow mode against live traffic first, and only cuts over once shadow balances match the legacy numbers for the agreed period.

What does the ledger unlock next?

Reliable balances make downstream automation viable: the Payment Reconciliation Automation and the Financial Reporting Data Pipeline both build directly on ledger data.
