How this operator works

every way of working, already decided
A · capability focus

Owns the system, not the ticket

Takes end-to-end ownership of a service or surface. Design, delivery, on-call. And is measured on outcomes, not hours.

B · ways of working

Embedded, async-first, instrumented

Works inside your repos, your CI and your rituals. Daily written standups, decisions logged. No status-meeting tax.

C · reliability posture

Runbooks, canaries, reversible deploys

Every change gated and reversible. Incidents get a timeline and a postmortem; nothing ships without a rollback.

D · comms & cadence

Plugged into your Slack & rituals

Joins standups and retros, reports weekly against the goal. You get an operator, not a queue.

E · tooling

Brings a pre-wired stack or adopts yours

Infrastructure and observability as code by default. No bespoke setup tax to absorb.

F · onboarding

Scoped, gated, reversible

Week-1 shadow, week-2 ownership, swap on request inside the trial window. No long-tail handover risk.

Overview

Self-service BI fails in two directions: locked-down data nobody can use, or a free-for-all where every team invents its own numbers. This package sets up the middle path: governed datasets, semantic definitions, permissions, and reusable starter dashboards. The finish state is business users answering their own questions on data that is certified, permissioned, and consistent.

The sprint builds a semantic layer of certified datasets with agreed metric definitions, sets role-based permissions, and delivers reusable dashboard templates in your BI platform, such as Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or Metabase, plus the usage rules that keep the estate coherent as it grows.

·

What's included

Certified governed datasets

Curated, documented datasets that business users can trust and build on.

Semantic definitions

Shared metric and dimension definitions, so two teams asking the same question get the same answer.

Permissions model

Role-based access aligned to your organisation, covering row-level rules where needed.

Reusable dashboard starters

Template dashboards and usage guidelines that set the pattern for self-service work.

·

How it works

  1. Scope: identify priority subject areas, users, and governance rules; agree acceptance criteria.
  2. Build: implement datasets, semantic definitions, permissions, and starter dashboards.
  3. Handover: train business users and data owners, hand over governance documentation.

FAQs

Do we need a data warehouse first?

Yes, or at least consolidated, query-ready data. If that layer is missing, the Cloud Data Warehouse Implementation package is the right precursor.

Which BI tools do you cover?

The mainstream platforms, including Tableau, Power BI, Looker, and Metabase. The governance pattern is the same; the implementation adapts to your tool.

How do we stop dashboard sprawl afterwards?

The handover includes certification and review rules: who can publish certified content, how datasets change, and how orphaned dashboards get retired. Governance is part of the deliverable, not an afterthought.
