This sprint restructures an existing backend into explicit domain modules — each with its own interfaces, data access, and ownership — while the application stays a single deployable. You keep the operational simplicity of one artifact and lose the tangle.

The team maps current coupling, agrees the target seams, and extracts modules incrementally behind a regression safety net — the same phased, strangler-style approach Scrums.com applies across its legacy modernization work. Does this split the application into separate services?

No. The application stays one deployable. The sprint creates module boundaries inside it. If specific domains later justify independent deployment, the Monolith-to-Microservices Migration menu item picks up exactly where this one finishes.

What do we need to provide?

Repository access, a way to run the application and its test suite, and a domain expert available for boundary decisions. If the test suite is weak, the sprint budgets time to build a characterization net first.

What happens after the sprint?

Your team owns the module map. CI checks block cross-boundary imports, so the structure holds as new work lands. Further extractions can be scheduled as follow-on items in your plan backlog.
