How this operator works

every way of working, already decided
A · capability focus

Owns the system, not the ticket

Takes end-to-end ownership of a service or surface. Design, delivery, on-call. And is measured on outcomes, not hours.

B · ways of working

Embedded, async-first, instrumented

Works inside your repos, your CI and your rituals. Daily written standups, decisions logged. No status-meeting tax.

C · reliability posture

Runbooks, canaries, reversible deploys

Every change gated and reversible. Incidents get a timeline and a postmortem; nothing ships without a rollback.

D · comms & cadence

Plugged into your Slack & rituals

Joins standups and retros, reports weekly against the goal. You get an operator, not a queue.

E · tooling

Brings a pre-wired stack or adopts yours

Infrastructure and observability as code by default. No bespoke setup tax to absorb.

F · onboarding

Scoped, gated, reversible

Week-1 shadow, week-2 ownership, swap on request inside the trial window. No long-tail handover risk.

Overview

Google Cloud rewards good project structure and punishes its absence: IAM sprawl, unbounded spend, and audit gaps all trace back to a missing foundation. This package delivers a GCP landing zone: organisation and folder hierarchy, project factory, identity, shared networking, policy, and observability set up before workloads arrive. The finish state is a governed GCP foundation teams can deploy into on day one.

The build implements a folder and project structure with organisation policy constraints as guardrails, Cloud Identity and IAM role patterns, Shared VPC network foundations, and centralised audit logging and monitoring. Everything ships as Terraform, reproducible and reviewable.

·

What's included

Organisation and project structure

Folder hierarchy and a project factory pattern with consistent naming, labels, and ownership.

Identity and access baseline

Cloud Identity groups and IAM role patterns replacing ad-hoc per-project grants.

Shared network foundation

Shared VPC architecture, private connectivity, and egress controls ready for workloads.

Policy, logging, and observability

Organisation policy constraints, centralised audit logs, and monitoring baselines enabled by default.

·

How it works

  1. Scope: confirm hierarchy, identity source, network design, and compliance requirements.
  2. Build: implement the landing zone as Terraform, with policy, identity, networking, and observability.
  3. Handover: onboard the first workload project, train your team, hand over code and runbooks.

Part of every Delivery Plan

The Google Cloud Landing Zone Setup is a menu item on the Scrums.com delivery catalog, available at every plan tier. Add it to your plan backlog and your delivery team schedules it like any other item — scoped, tracked, and reported through the SEOP. See Delivery Plan Tiers.

FAQs

We already run workloads in a few GCP projects. Can they stay?

Yes. Existing projects are brought under the new hierarchy with constraints in audit mode first, then tightened on an agreed schedule; nothing is forcibly moved.

Does this cover BigQuery and data workloads?

The foundation covers the structure, identity, and networking data workloads sit on. Building the analytics estate itself is separate; the Cloud Data Warehouse Implementation package handles that.

Who maintains the Terraform afterwards?

Your team, through code review. The handover includes the module structure and change workflow, so the foundation evolves without drifting back to console clicks.
