to your stack & domain
Containerize an existing application with production-ready images, clean configuration handling, and a local development workflow.
How this operator works
every way of working, already decidedOwns the system, not the ticket
Takes end-to-end ownership of a service or surface. Design, delivery, on-call. And is measured on outcomes, not hours.
Embedded, async-first, instrumented
Works inside your repos, your CI and your rituals. Daily written standups, decisions logged. No status-meeting tax.
Runbooks, canaries, reversible deploys
Every change gated and reversible. Incidents get a timeline and a postmortem; nothing ships without a rollback.
Plugged into your Slack & rituals
Joins standups and retros, reports weekly against the goal. You get an operator, not a queue.
Brings a pre-wired stack or adopts yours
Infrastructure and observability as code by default. No bespoke setup tax to absorb.
Scoped, gated, reversible
Week-1 shadow, week-2 ownership, swap on request inside the trial window. No long-tail handover risk.
Overview
Works on my machine ends where containers begin, if the images are built properly. This package containerizes an existing application: production-ready images, clean configuration and secrets handling, and a local development workflow that mirrors production. The finish state is the application running from images your pipeline builds, the same artifact from a laptop to production.
The work goes beyond a Dockerfile that happens to build. Images are minimal and layered for fast rebuilds, configuration follows twelve-factor patterns with secrets kept out of images, health checks and graceful shutdown are wired in, and image builds land in your registry through CI.
What's included
Production-ready images
Minimal, security-conscious images with sensible layering and fast, reproducible builds.
Configuration and secrets handling
Environment-driven configuration with secrets injected at runtime, never baked in.
Local development workflow
A compose-based local setup so developers run the real stack on their machines.
Registry and build automation
Images versioned, scanned, and pushed to your registry from CI.
How it works
- Scope: assess the application's runtime, dependencies, and configuration; agree the target setup.
- Build: write and harden the images, wire configuration and health checks, automate builds.
- Handover: verify parity across environments, train the team, hand over documentation.
Part of every Delivery Plan
The Docker Containerization Package is a menu item on the Scrums.com delivery catalog, available at every plan tier. Add it to your plan backlog and your delivery team schedules it like any other item — scoped, tracked, and reported through the SEOP. See Delivery Plan Tiers.
FAQs
Does this include deploying to Kubernetes?
No. This package ends at production-ready images and automated builds. Running them on an orchestrated platform is the Kubernetes Production Setup menu item.
Our app has background jobs and cron tasks. Are those covered?
Yes. Web processes, workers, and scheduled tasks are each containerized with the right process model, not squeezed into one container.
What if our dependencies are old or undocumented?
Containerization forces the dependency list into the open, which is half its value. Undocumented dependencies found along the way are captured in the images and written down.
