How this operator works

every way of working, already decided
A · capability focus

Owns the system, not the ticket

Takes end-to-end ownership of a service or surface. Design, delivery, on-call. And is measured on outcomes, not hours.

B · ways of working

Embedded, async-first, instrumented

Works inside your repos, your CI and your rituals. Daily written standups, decisions logged. No status-meeting tax.

C · reliability posture

Runbooks, canaries, reversible deploys

Every change gated and reversible. Incidents get a timeline and a postmortem; nothing ships without a rollback.

D · comms & cadence

Plugged into your Slack & rituals

Joins standups and retros, reports weekly against the goal. You get an operator, not a queue.

E · tooling

Brings a pre-wired stack or adopts yours

Infrastructure and observability as code by default. No bespoke setup tax to absorb.

F · onboarding

Scoped, gated, reversible

Week-1 shadow, week-2 ownership, swap on request inside the trial window. No long-tail handover risk.

·

Overview

A backup that has never been restored is a hope, not a control. This package implements backup and disaster recovery for a defined workload: recovery objectives agreed, backups and replication configured, restore procedures written, and, the part most estates skip, recovery actually tested. The finish state is a workload whose recovery time and data loss limits are stated, implemented, and proven.

The sprint starts from business-driven RPO and RTO targets, implements the backup and replication architecture that meets them at sensible cost, and finishes with a timed restore exercise that verifies the objectives are real. Runbooks are written for the operators who will use them at 3am, not for auditors.

·

What's included

Recovery objectives

RPO and RTO targets agreed per component, with the cost trade-offs made explicit.

Backup and replication implementation

Automated backups and cross-region or cross-account replication matched to the objectives.

Restore runbooks

Step-by-step recovery procedures written for real operators under real pressure.

Tested recovery

A timed restore exercise proving the objectives, with gaps fixed before handover.

·

How it works

  1. Scope: agree RPO/RTO per component, current gaps, and the recovery architecture.
  2. Build: implement backups, replication, and runbooks; automate verification of backup health.
  3. Handover: run the timed restore test, fix what it exposes, hand over runbooks and evidence.

Part of every Delivery Plan

The Cloud Backup & Disaster Recovery Setup is a menu item on the Scrums.com delivery catalog, available at every plan tier. Add it to your plan backlog and your delivery team schedules it like any other item — scoped, tracked, and reported through the SEOP. See Delivery Plan Tiers.

FAQs

Is this the same as high availability?

No. High availability keeps a system up through component failures; disaster recovery gets it back after larger ones. This package delivers the second. The High-Availability Architecture Upgrade menu item covers the first.

Do you test recovery against production?

Restore tests run into isolated environments, never over live production data. The exercise proves the procedure and the timings without adding risk.

How do we keep this honest over time?

Backup verification is automated, and the runbooks include a re-test cadence. Running a full exercise periodically is the Disaster Recovery Drill & Remediation menu item.
