How this operator works

every way of working, already decided
A · capability focus

Owns the system, not the ticket

Takes end-to-end ownership of a service or surface. Design, delivery, on-call. And is measured on outcomes, not hours.

B · ways of working

Embedded, async-first, instrumented

Works inside your repos, your CI and your rituals. Daily written standups, decisions logged. No status-meeting tax.

C · reliability posture

Runbooks, canaries, reversible deploys

Every change gated and reversible. Incidents get a timeline and a postmortem; nothing ships without a rollback.

D · comms & cadence

Plugged into your Slack & rituals

Joins standups and retros, reports weekly against the goal. You get an operator, not a queue.

E · tooling

Brings a pre-wired stack or adopts yours

Infrastructure and observability as code by default. No bespoke setup tax to absorb.

F · onboarding

Scoped, gated, reversible

Week-1 shadow, week-2 ownership, swap on request inside the trial window. No long-tail handover risk.

Overview

Azure estates that grow subscription by subscription without a governance spine end up impossible to secure or audit. This package delivers an Azure landing zone aligned to Microsoft's Cloud Adoption Framework: management groups, subscription structure, identity, policy, networking, and logging set up before workloads land. The finish state is a governed Azure foundation your teams can deploy into safely.

The build establishes a management group hierarchy with Azure Policy enforcing your baseline, Entra ID roles and access patterns, hub-and-spoke network foundations, and centralised logging into Log Analytics. Delivery is infrastructure-as-code, so the foundation is reproducible and auditable.

·

What's included

Management group and subscription structure

A hierarchy that separates platform, workloads, and sandboxes with clear ownership.

Policy guardrails

Azure Policy assignments enforcing security, tagging, and location rules by default.

Identity and network foundation

Entra ID role patterns plus hub-and-spoke networking ready for private connectivity.

Logging and monitoring baseline

Centralised activity and diagnostic logging with Log Analytics and alert baselines.

·

How it works

  1. Scope: confirm hierarchy, identity model, network topology, and compliance requirements.
  2. Build: implement the landing zone as code, with policy, identity, networking, and logging.
  3. Handover: onboard the first workload subscription, train your team, hand over code and runbooks.

Part of every Delivery Plan

The Azure Landing Zone Setup is a menu item on the Scrums.com delivery catalog, available at every plan tier. Add it to your plan backlog and your delivery team schedules it like any other item — scoped, tracked, and reported through the SEOP. See Delivery Plan Tiers.

FAQs

Do you follow the Microsoft reference architecture?

The landing zone aligns to the Cloud Adoption Framework, adapted to your size and compliance needs rather than deployed as an unexamined template.

What about our existing subscriptions?

They are enrolled under the new management group structure with policy in audit mode first, so nothing breaks on day one. Enforcement tightens on an agreed schedule.

What comes after the foundation?

Workload moves, via the Cloud Migration Sprint, or platform automation via the Infrastructure-as-Code Foundation package if your teams will build on top themselves.
