How this operator works

every way of working, already decided
A · capability focus

Owns the system, not the ticket

Takes end-to-end ownership of a service or surface. Design, delivery, on-call. And is measured on outcomes, not hours.

B · ways of working

Embedded, async-first, instrumented

Works inside your repos, your CI and your rituals. Daily written standups, decisions logged. No status-meeting tax.

C · reliability posture

Runbooks, canaries, reversible deploys

Every change gated and reversible. Incidents get a timeline and a postmortem; nothing ships without a rollback.

D · comms & cadence

Plugged into your Slack & rituals

Joins standups and retros, reports weekly against the goal. You get an operator, not a queue.

E · tooling

Brings a pre-wired stack or adopts yours

Infrastructure and observability as code by default. No bespoke setup tax to absorb.

F · onboarding

Scoped, gated, reversible

Week-1 shadow, week-2 ownership, swap on request inside the trial window. No long-tail handover risk.

Overview

Teams that start building without a target architecture make their biggest technical decisions by accident. The Solution Architecture Blueprint makes them on purpose: architects who have shipped production systems — across 1,200+ projects — define the components, boundaries, integrations, and data flows for the system you intend to build, and record why each decision was made.

The finish state is an approved blueprint: diagrams your engineers build against, decision records your future team can interrogate, and a build sequence that puts the riskiest parts first. It works for a new build or as the target state for an existing system.

·

What's included

Current-State Review

Your existing systems, constraints, and team capabilities mapped, so the target architecture is grounded in where you actually are.

Target Architecture

Component and deployment views of the target system: services, boundaries, data stores, and the infrastructure they run on — vendor-neutral and sized to your scale.

Integration & Data Flows

Every external system and internal boundary drawn with its contract, data flow, and failure mode, so integration work is scoped before it surprises you.

Decision Records

The key technical choices — stack, tenancy, data, hosting — written as decision records with options considered and the reasoning that picked the winner.

·

How it works

  1. Scope — Fix the system boundary, gather constraints and non-functional requirements, and review the current state with your team.
  2. Build — Design the target architecture, pressure-test the contentious decisions with your engineers, and write the decision records.
  3. Handover — The blueprint presented for sign-off, with a recommended build sequence and the diagrams source your team keeps.

Part of every Delivery Plan

The Solution Architecture Blueprint is a menu item on the Scrums.com delivery catalog, available at every plan tier. Add it to your plan backlog and your delivery team schedules it like any other item — scoped, tracked, and reported through the SEOP. See Delivery Plan Tiers.

FAQs

Do we need this if we already know our stack?

A stack choice is one decision; a blueprint is the full set — boundaries, data, integrations, tenancy, deployment. Knowing the stack makes the sprint faster, not unnecessary.

What if viability itself is still in question?

Run the Technical Feasibility Assessment first. The blueprint assumes the build decision is made and designs how, not whether.

Who builds against the blueprint?

Anyone. It is written to be team-agnostic — your engineers, a Scrums.com delivery team, or both. Because the same architects can lead delivery, nothing is lost between the plan and the build.
