Lead the adaptation, standardisation, and governance of a wallet platform across multiple markets, ensuring capabilities are consistently implemented, scalable, secure, and aligned with group architecture, regulatory requirements, and business strategy.Define wallet adaptation frameworks that enable rapid localisation while maintaining a unified core platform.Act as the central authority for wallet platform governance, ensuring alignment between product, technology, and market specific requirements while accelerating time to market for new wallet features and services.Drive compliance, interoperability, and reuse of shared services across all operating markets.
Responsibilities
- Define and implement a wallet adaptation framework to support multi market deployments.
- Drive localisation of wallet features (payments, transfers, merchant services, etc.) while maintaining core platform integrity.
- Enable rapid rollout of wallet capabilities across markets through standardised approaches.
- Balance global platform consistency with local regulatory and commercial requirements.
- Establish and enforce governance frameworks for wallet platform implementations.
- Define standards, policies, and guardrails for wallet customisations and integrations.
- Collaborate closely with stakeholders to build solutions aligned to business demands and roadmap.
- Lead design authority and governance forums for wallet related solutions.
- Ensure adherence to architecture, security, and compliance standards across all markets.
- Review and approve designs, ensuring formal sign off from stakeholders.
- Promote reuse of wallet solutions across operating markets.
- Conduct regular gap analyses of use cases and capabilities to identify growth opportunities.
- Manage and resolve escalations impacting wallet platform consistency, compliance, and delivery across markets.
- Report periodically to function leadership on progress against agreed metrics, and provide ad hoc reporting on specific projects as required.
- Support the planning and management of Wallet and Core Banking systems and applications budget, capital expenditure, and operational expenditure.
- Monitor governance metrics, including adherence to wallet platform standards, alignment of solution components to target architecture, platform uptime, transaction success rate, reuse of core wallet services and APIs, and critical incidents traced to architectural issues.
Experience and education
Education
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Relevant certification, accreditation, or membership with a professional body, as required.
Certifications (Preferred)
- Banking system certifications (e.g. Temenos, Finacle) and PCI DSS knowledge.
- TOGAF or equivalent enterprise architecture certification, SAFe Architect, Azure/AWS/GCP Architect, or Mobile App Architect certifications.
- Vendor certifications (e.g. Apigee, Kong, MuleSoft, AWS API Gateway).
Experience
- 10+ years in architecture roles, including at least 5 years in digital wallets, core banking, or fintech platforms.
- Proven experience developing Wallet and Core Banking platform roadmaps and reference architecture, and aligning architecture to business capabilities.
- Experience applying TOGAF or similar enterprise architecture frameworks.
- Experience in architecture governance, capability maturity assessments, and standardisation efforts.
- Strong experience in platform governance, standardisation, and operating model design.
- Experience in mobile money/wallet ecosystems (P2P, P2M, remittances, airtime, bill payments).
- Experience leading cross functional teams across product, engineering, and architecture.
- Proven experience managing multi market or multi country platform implementations.
- Deep understanding of payments ecosystems (switches, processors, banks, schemes, remittances), API first and event driven architecture principles, and compliance with PSD2, GDPR, PCI DSS, and Open Banking standards.
- Understanding of Agile delivery methodologies (Scrum, Kanban preferred).
