This role is responsible for driving the architecture, solution design, and strategic evolution of a Wallet Platform within a fintech environment. The position requires a strategic thinker with strong technical depth and architecture discipline, and a deep understanding of the evolving technology, digital commerce, and fintech landscape. The role assesses current and future wallet architecture and designs a scalable, secure, cost effective, and future fit wallet platform aligned to business strategy, customer experience ambitions, regulatory requirements, and technology roadmaps. The incumbent is accountable for shaping end to end wallet architecture that supports advanced fintech use cases, interoperability solutions, and digital transaction flows across multiple channels, while leading the design and standardisation of wallet architectural and integration methodologies across the organisation.

Responsibilities

Translate business strategy, product roadmaps, and ecosystem requirements into fit for purpose core wallet architecture principles, target state designs, and solution roadmaps
Define core wallet and system architecture for scalability, security, and high availability
Evaluate and prioritise core wallet and platform changes across the organisation
Contribute to the evolution of group wide wallet architecture strategy, managing platform product changes, upgrades, adaptation, and evolution
Define and implement a wallet adaptation framework to support multi market deployments
Develop reusable architecture frameworks, integration blueprints, design standards, and technical guardrails for the wallet platform across operating markets
Drive localisation and standardisation of wallet features (payments, transfers, merchant services) while maintaining core platform integrity
Enable rapid rollout of wallet capabilities across markets through standardised approaches
Define standards, policies, and guardrails for wallet customisations and integrations
Lead design authority and governance forums for wallet related solutions
Ensure adherence to architecture, security, and compliance standards across all markets
Review and approve designs, ensuring sign off from stakeholders
Promote re use of wallet solutions across operating markets
Conduct regular gap analysis of use cases and capabilities to identify growth opportunities
Ensure interoperability with core wallet applications, core systems, and product changes
Align core platform evolution with digital, data, and channel strategies
Govern vendor and internal solution integration with wallet platforms
Collaborate with technical, business, product, partner, and operational teams to ensure architecture alignment and delivery clarity
Act as technical subject matter expert on wallet integration options and architecture choices
Support delivery through Agile methodologies, while working within Waterfall SDLC processes where required
Manage and resolve escalations impacting wallet and core banking functions
Report periodically to leadership on progress against defined metrics, and on an ad hoc basis for specific projects

Experience and education

Minimum four year academic degree (Bachelor's degree) in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Computing, or a related field
Master's degree desirable
Relevant certification such as TOGAF or an equivalent enterprise architecture certification
Additional certifications advantageous: SAFe Architect, Azure/AWS/GCP Architect, Mobile App Architect, banking systems certifications, PCI DSS knowledge, or vendor certifications (Apigee, Azure, MuleSoft, AWS API Gateway)
Minimum 5 to 7 years' relevant experience in architecture, payments, digital platforms, fintech, telecommunications, or related technology environments
Strong experience in payment systems, payment integration, architecture design, and technical solution design
Experience developing wallet and core banking platform roadmaps, reference architecture, and aligning architecture to business capabilities
Experience with TOGAF or similar enterprise architecture frameworks
Experience in architecture governance, capability maturity assessments, and standardisation efforts
Experience designing or integrating digital wallet platforms, super app ecosystems, embedded finance services, or merchant payment ecosystems advantageous
Prior experience in financial services preferred, with banking or telecom industry exposure; mobile money experience is an added advantage
Experience in integration and orchestration, functional architecture design, and technical solution design
Demonstrated ability to architect end to end fintech wallet solutions incorporating transparency, privacy, security, governance, quality assurance, and validation methodologies
Deep understanding of mobile money and wallet platforms, transaction systems, digital wallets, payment APIs, and core banking modules
Understanding of KYC/AML compliance and regulatory technology
Understanding of Open API standards, protocols, and methods for modern payment and financial systems
Understanding of Agile software delivery processes (Scrum, Kanban preferable)
