Scrums.com is looking for a senior analyst to help shape their client's next-generation real-time settlement system. It is a prefunded platform at the heart of a regulated national payments ecosystem. The system sits between real-time clearing schemes and SAMOS / SADC RTGS. It will let non-bank participants settle directly for the first time once the National Payment System Act amendments take effect. You'll own the requirements and design work the entire Build phase depends on, so your specifications become what engineering teams build against. You'll work in an embedded, AI-enabled delivery team alongside the client's Solution Architect, Risk, Finance, Security and engineering teams. It's a rare chance to put your name on core national payments infrastructure on a 12-month engagement.
Responsibilities
- Define and document end-to-end settlement message flows, including ISO 20022 message sequences.
- Write integration specifications for SAMOS / RTGS to the settlement system, and for the settlement system to participants.
- Gather and document customer UX requirements, and review UX prototypes against them.
- Define requirements and design for reconciliations and controls.
- Capture audit requirements and trace each requirement through to its control and its test.
- Document billing rules once the billing framework is agreed.
- Define security and access requirements with the DevSecOps Lead and the client's security team.
- Turn Design outputs into a prioritised Build backlog, which is one of the four Design exit criteria.
- Use the team's AI harness to draft flows, specifications and test scenarios, and review every draft rigorously before sign-off.
- Pair with the client's analysts and engineers so knowledge stays in-house.
Experience and education
- 6+ years as a Business Analyst, with at least 3 years in payments, banking or financial market infrastructure.
- Strong payments domain knowledge across clearing, settlement and real-time gross settlement.
- Hands-on experience with ISO 20022 payment messaging.
- Process and sequence modelling using BPMN or UML.
- API and integration specification experience, including familiarity with OpenAPI.
- Experience designing reconciliations and controls in a regulated financial environment.
- Experience writing requirements for agile backlogs in Jira or a similar tool.
- A track record of integration specifications that engineering teams have built against.
- Confident stakeholder management with architecture, risk and finance teams.
- A degree in information systems, computer science, commerce or a related field, or equivalent experience.
